If Greece is one of the most popular destinations for boaters from all over the world, Santorini is certainly one of the best known and most loved islands by tourists in general. There is no tour operator that does not propose it to its customers or that organizes itineraries dedicated to this beautiful Aegean Sea pearl.
Follow us in this article that will give you some tips on how, when, and why to rent a boat for a Santorini tour.

Contrary to what many think, you don’t need to be an expert sailor to experience an unforgettable sailing holiday among the Greek islands. Just pack a good dose of adventure and rely on an experienced crew and skipper. Don’t worry, they are generally already available to you when you decide to charter a boat. You won’t have to be looking for a crew.
Where is Santorini?
Santorini is part of the Cyclades islands, an archipelago made up of dozens (perhaps it is better to say hundreds) of islands and islets located in the middle of the Aegean Sea. Santorini in particular is one of the archipelago’s southernmost islands, about 125 nautical miles from Athens, the Greek capital, and more than 40 miles from Paros and Naxos, the largest islands of the Cyclades.
South from Santorini, we find the island of Crete, only 65 nautical miles away.
What is the best season to visit Santorini?
Being a very sunny island located at rather low altitudes, its best season runs from spring to autumn. However, keep in mind that the central summer months, July and August, are by far the most popular with tourists, and the crowds on the beaches, rather than in front of temples and museums, tend to grow easily during the day.

Another great variable that must always be kept under control is the winds that blow in these areas, especially in the warmer months when the infamous Meltemi winds blow in the Aegean Sea, coming from the north and capable of being truly impetuous. These do not preclude navigation but must be managed by experienced skippers, especially if your idea is to move from one island to another.
Why is Santorini so renowned?
Romantic Santorini is a very special Greek island, at the same time one of the most famous and representative of Greece’s tourist success but also one with its own strong identity that distinguishes it from other islands. In the list of what to see in Santorini in the first place, there are its legendary sunsets, the most beautiful in all of Greece, together with the breathtaking views that can be enjoyed from the top of its caldera, the volcano that made the Santorini landscape unique.
Chic towns and more traditional villages follow one another on this island which obliges the tourist to always have a camera at hand. You can relax on one of its black sand beaches or taste the famous wines of the island in one of its renowned wineries, while for a cultural itinerary you can visit the famous Akrotiri ruins.
What is the advantage of a boat tour in Santorini?
Many answers could be given to this question but the one that is certainly the most important is freedom: the freedom to move from one beach to another without problems of time, means of transport or traffic, freedom to always choose your next destination, freedom to relax while enjoying a sunset sipping a good wine, freedom to finally enjoy some well-deserved rest while a select and competent crew takes care of you.
If these ‘freedoms’ have convinced you, contact Your Boat Holiday and immediately start making the dream of a sailing holiday come true!
Where is it convenient to set sail to reach Santorini?
If you are wondering which marina is best to sail to this island, the answer is simply from any! Santorini can be easily reached from all the main Cyclades ports such as Paros or Mykonos and also from those close to Athens, such as Alimos and Lavrion. You can therefore take the opportunity to organize an itinerary that takes you between the islands that separate you from Santorini.

Is it possible to sail directly from Santorini?
Although it is so famous, Santorini does not have a real marina from which to set sail as the seabed that characterizes the island is much lower than elsewhere. This has led most of the shipowners and charter companies to prefer other islands, as we said in the previous paragraph.
Of course, if necessary, it is still possible to request to sail directly from Santorini through a delivery service, which however will involve additional costs.
Finally, we recommend an example of a classic itinerary that always leaves our customers very satisfied and that can be modified and expanded as you wish!
