Have you ever heard of Zlatni Rat (or Golden Horn), the hidden treasure of central Dalmatia?
It is a wonderful strip of golden sand framed by shades ranging from turquoise to dark blue. This is the portrait of one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia: Zlatni Rat.
Follow us in this short article if you are interested in finding out more about this natural work of art that has become an icon of Croatia in the world.
A beach with a particular and spectacular history, capable of changing its profile over time
Known as the Golden Horn, it is located just over two kilometers from the center of Bol, a town located on the southern side of the Brač island, at the foot of the 778-meter high Vidova Gora mountain, the highest peak of all the Adriatic islands. The splendid beach made of extremely fine pebbles extends for over 500 meters and thanks to the presence of the currents coming from the Hvar Channel, its sea waters are truly clear, fresh, and crystalline. Its peculiarity is that it is a unique natural phenomenon: in fact, it has a triangle shape that extends over the sea and its most extreme point facing east constantly changes shape under the influence of winds and sea currents, moving towards the west.
The beach is surrounded by a beautiful pine forest which, in addition to hosting the remains of an ancient Roman villa, is an oasis for sheltering in the shade: the contrast of the green with the pale stones and the clarity of the sea is reminiscent of a Caribbean landscape.
