How to reach Cooper Island?

Located a few nautical miles south of Tortola, Cooper Island can be reached comfortably via the dense network of ferries that connect it to the capital, Road Town.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to reach Tortola by direct flight. You need to stop instead in a neighboring state such as Puerto Rico, St Maarten, or Antigua and from there take a charter flight to the Terrance B. Lettsome Airport.

10 Days Charter Itinerary in the British Virgin Islands

  • Day 1 -> Cooper Island, the British Virgin Islands green heart

As previously mentioned, this itinerary starts from Cooper Island. This is certainly not a casual choice but rather intended to enhance the ecological soul of the British Virgin Islands.

Cooper Island is one of the islands that burned the times in rebuilding a marina and a resort after the hurricane that hit the BVI’s in 2017, also restoring the existing green oasis thanks to the help of botanists and green architects.

We use the first hours of navigation to acclimate, visiting some splendid beaches such as that of Manchineel Bay. Alternatively, you can go ashore and spend the afternoon at the Cooper Island Beach Club, a small, well-stocked resort with a bar, restaurant, and lounge area

  • Day 2 – 3 -> Virgin Gorda and its majestic natural pools

The easternmost island of the British Virgin Islands is Virgin Gorda, the third-largest after Tortola and Anegada. The wonder of this island is located in the protected area of the southern tip and is called The Baths. Majestic granite boulders, the size of cyclopean walls, arranged to form emerald-colored saltwater pools a few tens of meters from the beach.

An excellent refuge during the summer, when temperatures reach 40 degrees, offering comfortable shelter from the sun.

After setting sail from Cooper Island, we spend the next two days discovering Virgin Gorda, The Baths, and Spanish Town, the second-largest city in the archipelago.

The time at your disposal will seem to fly between diving, excursions, and water games already onboard your yacht.

  • Day 4 – 5 -> The coral island of Anegada

Unlike the other islands of the BVI of volcanic origin, the flat Anegada soil is composed of coral and limestone. The vast salt flats at the western end of the island are home to a unique fauna of its kind, which includes iguanas and pink flamingos.

It is the perfect island to retire to and enjoy some quietude, between long walks on white beaches, such as the enchanting Loblolly Bay, and exciting snorkeling in its incredible coral reef, the Horseshoe Reef.

Located outside the archipelago, about two hours by boat northwest of Tortola and Virgin Gorda, this island takes at least two days to be fully appreciated.

  • Day 6 -> Scrub Island

We return from Anegada following the route that takes us north of Tortola. Before reaching the island, however, we stop at the small but delightful Scrub Island.

There is no inhabited center on the island, however, following a massive development project, also linked to the growing tourist interest, a tourist port, and a luxury resort has recently been built.

  • Day 7 -> Tortola – Cane Garden Bay

Once on the opposite side of the island from Road Town, in the northern area, Cane Garden Bay Beach opens up in front of us.

It is a very popular area with the locals and during the summer it is filled with parties and music of all kinds. This is also the ideal place to drink a famous local cocktail, the Painkiller, a cocktail that has generated a local “war” to decide who owns the copyright of this mix of orange, pineapple, and coconut flavors.

After doing some snorkeling, paddleboarding, or kayaking. do not forget to visit the ancient Callwood Distillery!

  • Day 8 – 9 -> Norman Island caves

The last leg of the journey, before returning to Cooper Island, is located south of Tortola’s West End, in the southern part of the Sir Francis Drake Channel. We are talking about Norman Island, famous for the rock formations called The Indians, whose profiles seem to draw the silhouettes of an Indian chief. The other attraction of this island is the Caves, at the tip of Treasure Point, carved by the sea, and the wind that offers the sensation of swimming in a natural aquarium with snorkeling on the water.

Divers in your group cannot miss the opportunity to dive at The Indians. Those who instead prefer adventure can spend a day exploring Norman Island on foot. The path is clear and leads in different directions, including to the top, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view.

  • Day 10 -> Back to Cooper Island

Slowly and unhurriedly, we finally return to our landing place in Cooper Island where the final greetings with the crew and a final day of rest await us before the return flight.
