Champion’s overview
Who is Rafael Nadal? When it comes to the strongest tennis players in the world, it is impossible not to mention Rafael Nadal, 3 times first in the ranking and certainly one of the most relevant figures in modern tennis.
He was the number one in the ATP world for a total of 209 weeks, conquering the top of the ranking on 4 occasions (a record), and is the tennis player who has occupied the second position in the ranking for the longest (339 weeks overall), remaining n. 2 for 160 consecutive weeks behind Roger Federer.
In his long career not yet finished he won 21 Grand Slam titles out of 27 finals played (2 Australian Open, 12 Roland Garros, 2 Wimbledon, and 4 US Open), the Olympic gold medal in the singles in 2008, and the Olympic gold medal in the double in 2016, 5 Davis Cups with the Spanish national team, 35 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments (absolute record), 21 ATP 500 tournaments and 9 ATP 250 tournaments. his great fame.
Nadal and his great passion for boating
His passion for boats began in childhood, spent on the island of Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands. Here Rafa took his first steps as a tennis player but he also got acquainted with pleasure boats, with which he enjoyed darting around his native island on his father’s motorboat Riviera.
Born and raised in Mallorca, Rafa loves the sea, and to enjoy his passion to the fullest he recently purchased a purchased superyacht Sunreef 80 Power, a 24-meter long catamaran equipped with multiple comforts, which replaced the “Beethoven”, his previous boat.
Why did he choose a catamaran?
His “nautical career” began with the purchase of a Princess V62, followed in 2017 by the MCY 76 from Monte Carlo Yachts. Whenever he comes home after a tournament or even a series of grueling workouts, Rafael has always loved to indulge in short snorkeling trips or simply a relaxing night on board. However, it was only after he chartered a Sunreef 74 sailing catamaran for a family vacation that he sparked the spark with multi-hull yachts.
The motivation for this choice is all due to a question of space, as the champion recently declared: “I only owned monohulls and on a catamaran, I was fascinated by the enormous amount of space. Honestly, in my small port (in Mallorca), the 80 Sunreef Power is the largest boat that can dock there. It is great for me that I can have it here in Porto Cristo, which is in front of my house. The enormous amount of space that my catamaran has is unreachable by any monohull up to 30 meters. This is for me the main reason why I switched from monohull to multihull. “
Nadal also stated that Great White’s main use currently takes place along the coast of his home island, Mallorca, as a break from his intense training schedule: “The pressure of competing every single day is high, you can’t hide it. When I come back home, I have the opportunity to go out and spend perhaps just a day away from everything without thinking about tennis, just diving and spending the night on board. “
