If in recent years Croatia has played an increasingly central role in nautical tourism in the Mediterranean Sea, the reasons are many but largely due to the absolute beauty and incredible variety of its landscapes, rich in splendid islands and natural parks that line the entire east coast of the Adriatic Sea.

In a context of absolute first-rate, one of the most exciting places for all boaters looking for unique scenarios is the Blue Lagoon, an easily accessible and almost unexpected place in the classic Dalmatian landscape.

Krknjasi: the Blue Lagoon

This unspoiled natural beauty is located near the east coast of the island of Drvenik Veli, just 20 minutes from Trogir and about half an hour from Split. Precisely, Blue Lagoon is located approximately 14 nautical miles from Split and only 6 nautical miles southwest of the historic city of Trogir, to which it belongs administratively. This makes it a very popular destination.

This tropical lagoon is indeed well known to sailors and captains who love to explore pristine waters and enjoy secluded beaches. The Krknjaši islands are uninhabited with beautiful pebble beaches and shallow sandy bottoms. A snorkeler’s paradise!

The Blue Lagoon is a dream come true for boaters

The island of Drvenik Veli is known for its untouched nature, peace, tranquility, and the turquoise color of the sea. Sandy beaches are a rarity in Dalmatia, so this sandy bay offers various benefits for charters but also for single-day boat trips.

The bay of Krknjasi is surrounded and protected by two islands, Veliki and Mali Krknjasi, and it is this particularity that guarantees beautiful shallow sandy beaches. Along the coasts, there are numerous coves with truly enchanting beaches.

If you are traveling with your family and children, the Blue Lagoon is the right place to take them to spend a day of pure fun without big risks. In fact, the beach is quiet and suitable for families with small children.

As it is surrounded by small islands, its waters are calm and steady, making it a perfect destination for activities such as diving, swimming, and especially snorkeling: the surrounding sea is indeed a refuge for thousands of different species of marine fauna and flora.

There are also numerous dining options and excellent Dalmatian restaurants on-site with a great selection of fresh fish and authentic dishes.

What is the best time to visit Krknjasi?

The best time to visit Blue Lagoon is when the summer season is at its peak, i.e. in the hot months of July and August.

In these months the risk of rain is very low and the climate remains mostly dry and windy. The water temperature fluctuates between 23 and 25 ºC, perfect conditions for swimming, diving, snorkeling, or whatever else you can think of aboard your charter yacht.

The downside is that, since the vast majority of tourists choose this period to visit it, it is natural that during these months the beaches and the entire lagoon become very crowded.

If you are looking for more peace and discretion for your trip, you should therefore try to plan your itinerary in the months of May and June or September. The climate is still warm even in these months, even if they are cooler and it is a bit more likely to run into some bad weather days. A compromise that is up to you to evaluate.
